Nordic cuisine in Japan | 北欧スタイルカフェ/レストラン

The Japanese take things from other cultures and make them look prettier. So I collected all Nordic cafes, restaurants, bakeries and eateries in Japan.

Sweden ・スウェーデン料理

IKEA is present in Japan, and you can enjoy the classic meatballs there, but also some items with a Japanese twist. For example, sweet potato soft ice cream.

lilla dalarna 北欧料理リラ・ダーラナ -, Roppongi (Tokyo): fish and meat main courses, Jansson’s temptation… They organise Kräftskiva parties, and have Semla during the related seasons!
ALLT GOTT アルトゴット,kichijoji (Tokyo). Around since 2002! Fish, meatballs, Icelandic lamb steak. Tiny portions.

Sourdough bread, Norwegian waffles with brown cheese, sour cream & mixed berry sauce; salmon & cream cheese; scrambled egg, sausage & sauted spinach; avocado, tomato, goat cheese; orange, lemon curd, black tea caramel. Brown cheese ice cream!!

Finland・フィンランド料理

CAFE AALTO カフェアアルト. Shin-Maru building, Tokyo station: chain from Helsinki, since 2025 in Japan! With iittala tableware, and artworks exhibited in the store. Set with salmon soup, salad , bun or cake (wild blueberry tart available!), salmon/herring open sandwich, shrimp croissant sandwich.
Mikon Finland shop & cafe ミコンフィンランドショップ&カフェ, Shinkoiwa 新小岩 Nikowa-Shinkoiwa. Sells Finnish products as Marimekko, Fazer, Moomin… and holds Finnish cuisine workshops among others!
Salmon soup, mushroom soup, makaronilaatikko (pasta gratin), kana sieni kastike (chicken mushroom sauce on rice), meatballs and rice, carelian pie, jansson temptation, blueberry pie, apricot cake.
Rajakivi ラヤキヴィ Nagoya, Finnish pancakes with cheese and jam, salad with cheese, open face sandwich, pulla, piirakka. Toscakaka, rabarberkaka, kladdkaka, Had Silviakaka for easter.

Baltic Forest バルトの森: organisation to promote baltic culture, with a shop selling honey cake, cooking workshops with cold soup, language courses! – author @estonianavi.

RUJA+285BLUE, Osaka: cafe and shop founded in 2025 by a Japanese couple in love with Estonia, selling Estonian products as Kalev chocolate and fashion brands.
Set of Muigikapsus (Estonian soup of pork, cabbage, carrot, barley), Estonian open sandwich with Munavoi (egg butter), salmon, herring. Sets with savory oatmeal, cinnamon/cardamom bun, salad, leivasupp (dessert of rye bread), Vastiakukkel (Estonian semla!)

Iceland・アイスランド

Iceland Market is a shop in Nagoya, selling beauty products. It used to have a restaurant too, now unfortunately closed! I mentioned it in this post about Puffins, as Puffins are very present there as a symbol/mascot for Iceland!•

Metsä/moominvalley Park Nordic eateries | メッツァ公式とムーミンバレーパーク北欧料理

Metsä is a Nordic-themed park with a Moomin park in Hanno, near Tokyo, and of course restaurants with (Moomin character-shaped) Nordic dishes:
Sniff-shaped Flygande Jacob (Jacob’s Flying Stew: casserole with chicken, chili sauce, bananas and peanuts); “Temptation of Mr Yang”, basically Janssonsfrestelse (Jansson’s temptation: potato and anchovy gratin); Ancestor-shaped taco meat dish – not of Scandinavian origin but an essential for the Scandinavian tradition of Tacofredag (taco friday).
Other restaurants in Metsä are the buffet restaurant LAGOM, and Lettula with pancakes among others.
